Let’s talk about what a routine really is…
A routine is specifically a group of tasks & habits that work together to help you get things done more efficiently & effortlessly.
If you’re struggling to start new ‘good’ habits – or to break ‘bad’ habits.. your routine needs a change.
But before you can know what needs to change, you have to recognize what’s happening.. that means, you need to account for your habits and your time.
It’s time for a time audit…
This will be a pain in the butt – and also extremely eye opening. Here’s what you’re going to do…
For one whole week, 7 days… you will write down what you’re doing all day long, and the time you are doing it. Example :
5:10 am : wake up, scroll phone
5:30 am : got out of bed, drank coffee
6 am : got in shower
Every detail, every task, every habit – if you get distracted cleaning out the dishwasher and rearrange the silverware… write it down.
This will give you a clear picture of your current habits & routines.. and allows you to see where the changes need to come.

Once you have clearer picture, you’re ready to build better routines…
Routines give you structure for your days & weeks, but routines also :
- reduce overwhelm
- reduce decision fatigue
- reduce task time
- are the building blocks for better habits
When you have solid routines, you don’t stop to think about what to do next.. you can do mundane, basic tasks mindlessly, and it gives you a place to begin good habits you want to implement.
Over the next few weeks, I’m going to be talking tirelessly about routines – the good, the better, and the practical… and guiding you thru how to use these in your life.
