Self care – that seems to be a buzz word right now. And honestly, rightfully so. Taking care of ourselves -as moms – is difficult. More than that, overwhelmed moms tend to feel guilty for wanting to take care of themselves… And we end up at the bottom of the to do list – but sometimes when you see the term “self care” it’s always besides a workout post or video..
Don’t get me wrong – I’m all for a good sweat sesh. And I think moving your body everyday is super important.. but SELF CARE should be about the WHOLE SELF. The body, mind, and spirit.
When you create your routines, there should be time allotted for activities that fuel all of the above. It’s easy to think about self care for the body – exercise, movement, & good nutrition.. but what about the mind & spirit. Over time, we’ve been conditioned to think that self care is lazy, or luxury – there couldn’t be anything further from the truth. It is necessary. Necessary so we can have patience, so we can be present, so we can give our best self, so WE DON’T CRACK.
DO NOT let yourself believe the lie that self care of any form is selfish. You deserve to take care of you. You will be a better mother for it. And for more delivered straight to your inbox – get on my email list!
Here are 10 Self Care Ideas That Have Nothing To Do With Fitness :
- Long Bath or Shower A L O N E
- Read a book
- Watch a movie
- Eat A L O N E
- Write in a journal or journal prayers
- Complete a daily devotion
- Take a walk
- Practice gratitudes & affirmation
- Give yourself a facial
- Take a N A P
As you work on creating routines in your life, be sure you have a self care plan & routine in place that cares for your WHOLE SELF. Think about daily, weekly, and monthly activities you can do to keep your sanity as a mom, and take good care of yourself. If you have a partner – go over the plan together. They need to be on board, and almost always they will be. Most of the time, they just need you to tell them what you need from them.
