Tell me this – does scrolling IG or Pinterest sometimes make you feel… AHHHHH or BLAHHHH!? I hope you read those aloud like I said them when I typed them.
But seriously, does the scroll ever make you feel like you’re not enough – or that you’re not doing enough. Or that you should be doing it different!?Yeah, me too. We ALL get caught in the comparison trap from time to time. And sometimes we get stuck there. Even me. Even top coaches and gurus. Everyone is susceptible to it. It’s just a fact.
But what we need is a way to get the heck outta the trap without losing ourselves.

Let’s go into the comparison trap thing first.. I heard Craig Melvin say on the Today Show this morning.. “I haven’t had an original idea since 2009”. And while he was totally kidding – he was probably right.
There are not many ‘new’ ideas. There are just new ways of saying it, of doing it, of teaching it. I mean – search ‘productivity coach’ on IG, and 100s if not thousands come up. But not everyone does it my way.. so while it’s not a ‘new’ idea. I do it a ‘new’ way.
And no matter what you do, there are a bunch of other people doing the same thing. The same thing, but different. And when we get caught in that comparison trap.. we totally forget that it’s the different way of doing it that makes us stand out, that makes {the right} people wanna work with us – and we start mimicking someone else.
That my friends is the trap. Its a mind trap of ‘my way isn’t good enough, I should do it their way’, But the problem with that.. their way works for them, because it’s their way. It won’t work for you.
And you need a strategy to get your head outta that trap – and back to the very thing that makes you, you.
3 Get Ways To Get Your Mind Out Of The Comparison Trap
1. Create before Consuming.
When you’re in creation mode, don’t scroll. Simple as that. Allow your own creative juices to flow without the influence of someone else’s content interfering in your process.
2. Mute + Unfollow
I know I’ve used this a lot, and it’s valid. If someone makes you feel like you’re not doing it ‘right’ or not doing ‘enough’, if you catch yourself mimicking their ideas or their content… MUTE or UNFOLLOW.
3. Create a Celebrate YOU Album on Your Phone
When someone sends you a DM or a comment that talks about how your content speaks to them – screen shot it. When a client tells you what a difference you’re making for them… screen shot it. Make an album of this. When you’re feeling down, or frustrated go look at what being you has done for YOUR people – and remember that no one else can do what you do, the way you do it!
The next time you’re struggling with this I want you to hear my voice telling you this…
‘They can steal your recipe, but their sauce won’t taste the same’.
No one does it like you, and the world needs your way in it!
UNTIL NEXT TIME,
